French Montana Says He's The First Bad Boy Artist To Own His Publishing

by STEVEN J. HOROWITZ
French explains that it's one of the reasons he signed with the house that Diddy built.
French Montana vetted a bidding war over the past few months, only to end up signing with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. But according to French, he inked the deal on his own terms, making him the first artist in the history of Bad Boy to own his publishing. Speaking with Real Talk NY, he revealed that Puff did him right by allowing him to own the rights to his tracks.
“I think I’m the first person - and I ain’t tell this to nobody - I’m the first person in the whole history of Bad Boy not to sign my publishing to Bad Boy or Puff,” he said. “Everything I asked for, Puff kept his word. In my eyes, he a real nigga for that. So far, so good. I have no complaints.”
While he wouldn’t comment on other artists who have been burned by Puff in the past, French said that it’s a matter of getting good lawyers who can interpret the contracts.
“I feel like a person, as a man, should never judge somebody on his situation with other people. You should always judge a person based on their situation with you. The situation you got with each other is the only way you can judge a man,” he continued. “I find it kind of weird. How can someone jerk you and give you the paperwork for your lawyer to see… It’s not like they’re tricking you. It’s not like words get up in the middle of the night and change on the contract. You just gotta get good lawyers. Of course, Puff is going to have the best lawyers.”

Alley Boy Says He Didn't Diss T.I. & Young Jeezy On "I Want In"

by ANDRES VASQUEZ
Atlanta's Alley Boy says he's not dissing Tip or Jeezy, adding that he's "exercising the sport" and expressing how he feels.
Although Alley Boy recently made comments about T.I.and Young Jeezy on a mixtape track, the ATL rapper says he wasn't dissing them. The track in question is "I Want In" off of Alley's latest mixtape, Nigganati. The song features lyrics like, "Niggas claim they're fuckin' the city up, bitch, you a liar," a line many viewed as a shot at T.I.'s mixtape title, Fuck Da City Up. He also has lines that similarly allude to Jeezy. Still, Alley Boy has announced that he was just "exercising the sport" in a recent interview with Fader.
"I’m not dissing them," he explained. "I’m a street motherfucker. But we’re all rappers at the end of the day, so I’m just exercising the sport. It’s just me, freedom of speech. There’s a lot of fake shit going on in Atlanta. People put up a persona. For example, Jeezy says he’s the realest nigga in it. That slaps a lot of niggas in the face who feel like they real. Or T.I. being like, I’m the King of the South. Look at all the forefathers we had before him, like Scarface, 8Ball & MJG. That’s like a slap in their face, too. I’m just expressing how I feel and separating myself from everything else in Atlanta."
He then explained that he wasn't dissing T.I. or Jeezy musically. He also added that he might lose fans, but that he's willing to risk that.
"'I Want In' isn’t about hating on the music," he noted. "This is on some street shit. I’m not talking about the industry, I’m not talking about music. I don’t give a fuck. I might lose the support of people who don’t know me—they’ve got millions of fans. But I’m in a position where I don’t got shit to lose."

Drake Says He Won't Respond To Common Diss, Is Recording New Music

by STEVEN J. HOROWITZ
After Common said the beef was over, Drizzy says he won't entertain the battle in the future.
Common recently said that he is ready to move on from the beef with Drake, to which Drizzy has finally broken his silence. On the set of the video for “The Motto” with The WeekndNah Right’s Nation spoke with the Young Money rapper who said he wouldn’t record another diss track towards Com and said that he used the beef to promote his latest album, The Dreamer, The Believer.
“No. Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a ‘hip hop moment’ or a ‘battle for the sake of musical integrity’…it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album,” he said. “More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.”
Additionally, Drake said that he plans to tour through 2012 and has already begun recording new music.
“I have begun working on new music already and I’ll be recording during the whole college tour with40. Making better music and building myself as a business is all that’s on my mind. Hopefully some acting as well.”

Meek Mill Projects Debut Album For December 2012 Release

by SEAN RYON
Meek Mill also explains the hardships and joys of raising and eight-month old child at this time in his career.
Maybach Music Group's rising star Meek Mill recently caught up with Hot 97's Angie Martinez to talk about his upcoming debut LP. Although the Philadelphia up-and-comer kept tight-lipped about the project itself, he did reveal that his as-of-yet to be titled debut should be due out sometime next December.
"Actually, I'm working on my album, trying to get my album right for the beginning of December [2012]," he explained.
Meek also talked about his eight-month old child and balancing his personal life and budding career. He explained that while he's always on the road touring and working, he makes sure to get home as often as possible and be a part of his child and long-time girlfriend's lives. He also added that his experiences in jail remind him of the kind of life he wants to maintain, one that includes his family and career.
"My baby's eight-months [old]," he explained. "I make it happen, though. You always gotta go home, at least once a week and make sure everything's straight…I'm in a relationship. It's rough sometimes, you know how it gets, leaving home for a month [to tour]…we make it work. I ain't married, I'm only 24 right now, but things gonna happen."
He added, "My girl's a rider. I was in jail before [MMG blew up], locked up nine months. My girl was riding, com[ing to] see me every week…[that part of my life's] over. It was a learning experience, it was a good thing for me, though. I just had to see it and know that's not what I want to be. I get to come out and tell some young boys that that's what they ain't want to be. It put me on a straight path."

Red Cafe Says He Was The First To Bring Up Signing French Montana To Diddy

by DANIELLE HARLING
Red Cafe revealed that he shared his French Montana co-sign with Diddy way before anyone else wanted to get onboard with the rapper.
During a radio interview with 107.5’s DJ MoonDawg, Brooklyn rapper Red Café revealed that before the label war over fellow rapper French Montana even began he first brought up the idea of signing French to Diddy and Bad Boy Records.
“Me and French been rocking for years. I been watching French and French had a plan and he put his plan in motion. And his plan is blossoming now into something that’s real beautiful,” Red Café explained. “His grind is impeccable. I respect French totally. I brought the idea to Puff to sign French. I was like ‘Yo dawg, this is my homie and this is what he doing.’ And you know Puff was in L.A…And this was before everybody else wanted him. We was like right there though, we was like right on the time before anybody else wanted to get down with his movement. I was like ‘Yo dawg, listen. Open ya ears up and focus up on this. This is a dope move.’ So I respect that I support French movement.”
On top of giving Diddy and Bad Boy Records the French Montana cosign, Red Café also warned French about signing to Akon’s label stressing that it probably wouldn’t be the smartest move for his career.
“I was in business with Akon and he was going over to Akon…I said ‘Dawg, I don’t know if that’s the move you want to make.’ I’mma keep it 100. ‘Kon is the homie, he’s a great person but business is business,” sad Red Café. “It is what it is. I gotta feed my family. Business is business. So French as my homie I was like ‘I don’t know if that’s the move you wanna do.’ But then I cosigned the Bad Boy move…I just think sky’s the limit with it. I think it’s a great thing.”

Drake Wants To Play President Barack Obama In Biopic

by STEVEN J. HOROWITZ
Drizzy also reveals that he's penning a project with some of his friends.
Drake has taken a break from his acting career, which included a stint on Degrassi: The Next Generation, to pursue his musical dreams. During an interview with VH1 News, the Young Money rapper said that he would hit the big screen to play President Barack Obama in a biopic.
“I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him,” he said. “That’s the goal. I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions.”
He said that he’s been reading scripts for some time and is actually working on penning a project with associates.
“I’ve been reading scripts for a while,” he said. “I want to do something great. I want to do something for my culture: the younger people who are still in tune with everything going on. I’m actually writing with my friends right now.”

by STEVEN J. HOROWITZ
The Hip Hop artists and moguls make the prestigious cut.
Billboard magazine has just unveiled its first-ever Power 100 list, with Live Nation chairman ranked at No. 1. But further down the list are a handful of Hip Hop figures, including Jay-ZBeyonceBirdman and more.
Jay and Bey, who recently had their first child Blue Ivy, jointly place at No. 13. Hov is honored for having the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, in addition to his business ventures, while Beyonce has sold more than 29 million units from solo and Destiny’s Child album sales.

Tyga Speaks On Collaborations With Nas & Nicki Minaj

by STEVEN J. HOROWITZ
The YMCMB rapper explains how his duets with Esco and Nicki came to be.
Tyga is currently gearing up for the release of his new album Careless World: Rise of the Last King, which is set for a February 21st release. During an interview withXXLMag.com, he reflected on collaborating with Nas andNicki Minaj for the LP and how the duets came to be.
Tyga first spoke on collaborating with Esco for “Kings and Queens,” which also features Wale.
“Yeah man, I sent Nas a song like six months ago and I never heard back from him but out of the blue, he called me like, ‘Yo, you doing your thing. I want to be a part of what you doing, I like everything you doing. Keep working hard,” he said. “I sent him the ‘Kings and Queens’ that night and he did it the next day. I was like, that shit is crazy. Nas always talks that shit. The song, man, [his bars] added the cherry on top. It’s a real classic song. People are gonna like it. I wanna think of a dope video. The storyline of the song, the whole King and Queens [theme], it’s motivational.”
He also touched on the song “Muthafucka Up,” which features his YMCMB peer Nicki Minaj. “The song for Nicki is called ‘Muthafucka Up,’” he said. “I don’t know what they gonna call it on the radio. Maybe they might call it ‘Up.’ That one is one of them going in type songs. Like how Wayne had ‘A Milli.’ One of those Young Money records that people love. We got a crazy visual for that one, too. I don’t wanna give it away. I’ve been doing a lot of features for everyone.”
