The Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles The Week Of 1/2/2012

by KATHY IANDOLI
\This week 50 Cent wins by making the girls go wild with Jeremih, while T.I. shows up a few times, and ScHoolboy Q makes a grand entrance.
We've officialy survived the first week of 2012. While 2011 ended rather abruptly in music - as in a bunch of album releases followed by a drought - we did find some mixtapes (Fabolous T.I. Raekwon Rick Ross ) to keep us entertained well into the New Years celebrations. This is a historically slow period for music, giving newer artists some time to strut their stuff, while veterans looking for a second breath attack these coming weeks as well. Some artists won big this week, while others made their big debut. Check all of them out below.

T.I. Quintuples While 50 Cent Plays Doubles

T.I. had quite a week musically. His "Fuck Da City Up"  mixtape arrived on New Years Day, and with it came a slew of tracks that made the internets shake. However, some of Tip's appearances on the chart didn't come from effing the city up. At #4 this week, his first Trouble Man leak with Dr. Dre "Popped Off" sits tight. Then right below it at #5 is the mixtape cut "Who What When" with Meek Mill. Under that at #6 is Tip's cameo on the remix to LoveRance's "Up." Finally, at #9 is "Piss'n On Your Ego" with B.o.B. A few days later the alternate version  with Game arrived too. So that makes five T.I. songs. Right behind him (but ahead of him still) is 50 Cent, who popped up with T.I. on the LoveRance track. More importantly, Fif took the #1 spot this week with "Girls Go Wild" featuring Jeremih. Looks like the pros are still taking over.

ScHoolboy Q Is Ready for 2012

Last year, Black Hippy (Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul) rocked all corners of Hip Hop in their own special ways. First Jay Rock came with Follow Me Home, then Kendrick Lamar droppedSection.80. Ab-Soul showed up all over the place on freestyles, collaborations, and everyhting in between. As 2012 starts, it's ScHoolboy Q's turn for the takeover. His new project Habits & Contradictions will hit the ground running on January 14th. This week, his song "Blessed" arrived with Kendrick Lamar. Perhaps it made the top listens because it was a slow week or maybe Q is just that good. Only time will tell to determine, but either way, welcome to the party, ScHoolboy Q.
